ITS Arizona is a local association dedicated to improving the future of Arizona’s transportation industry. The Board of Directors work to exchange ideas and systems among the many municipalities throughout the state. .




Yung Koprowski
President

Yung Koprowski, PE 
Yung Koprowski is currently a project engineer at Lee Engineering, LLC working on a variety of projects in traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems, and transportation planning.  Yung received her B.S. in Civil Engineering from Arizona State University.  She is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Arizona.  Yung is active in ITS Arizona, ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers), WTS (Women’s Transportation Seminar) Phoenix Metropolitan Chapter, ASHE (American Society of Highway Engineers) Phoenix Sonoran section, and Habitat for Humanity. Yung is a graduate of the 2011 ACEC Arizona LEAP (Leadership in Engineering Administration Program). Yung received the 2007 WTS Sharon D. Banks Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship which is awarded to women pursuing undergraduate studies in transportation engineering. She was also the 2007 ACEC EWEEK Engineering Student of the Year for exhibiting exemplary contributions to the profession and their communities. Yung was able to attend the 2009 ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibit in San Antonio, Texas after receiving the 2009 ITE Consultants Council Young Professionals Award.  Most recently, she was selected as Younger Member of the Year of the ASHE Phoenix Sonoran Section and attended the 2011 ASHE National Conference in Orlando, Florida to receive the ASHE National Board Younger Member of the Year award.




Kiran Guntupalli

Kiran Guntupalli 
Kiran Guntupalli is the ITS and Safety Engineer in the Transportation Division at Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG). The MAG is a Council of Governments and a Metropolitan Planning Organization for Phoenix metro area. His work at MAG focuses on ITS and Safety Planning in Phoenix metro region. Kiran moved to Arizona in November, 2004 from Lowell, Massachusetts. While in Massachusetts, he worked for Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC). Prior to working in Transportation his experience includes working for a Software Development firm. Kiran Guntupalli has graduate degree in Civil Engineering majoring in Transportation from University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Osmania University in India. His hobbies include traveling and a variety of sports such as volleyball, cricket and swimming. Kiran's parents are very special to him. His father works for the government of India and his mother is a housewife. In his spare time, Kiran enjoys listening to Indian music.




Jeff Jenq

Jeff Jenq 
With over 15 years of experience in ITS planning, operations, and research, Jeff Jenq joined OZ Engineering in Phoenix, Arizona in 2011. During his ten years tenure at Battelle, he led the national evaluation on AZTech Metropolitan Model Deployment Initiative (MMDI) and worked on federally sponsored ITS projects in ITS standards testing, ITS strategic plan and architecture development, traveler information, evaluation, transit ITS, and road weather information systems.  During his 3 year tenure at City of Mesa, he oversaw the ITS operations and the maintenance of the City’s signalized arterial network.  Jeff received his Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from Northwestern University. He was awarded by FHWA for his role in the 1996 implementation of Atlanta Traveler Information Showcase during the Olympics and received a 1998 MAG Desert Peak Award in recognition of his contribution in the evaluation of AZTech MMDI.  Jeff chairs the Board of the Chinese Linguistic School of Phoenix and servers as the President of a local photography club.




Khamchanh Ratsavong

Khamchanh Ratsavong 
Khamchanh has worked in the City of Scottsdale for eight years. His current title is Technology Specialist in the ITS division. Born in Vientiane, Laos, he moved to Bronx, NY in 1988. Khamchanh received his undergrad in BFA from State University of New York at Purchase in Fine Art and Graphic Art in 2001 and moved to Arizona in December 2001. He worked with Advance PCS from 2002 to 2003 then worked for the City of Scottsdale. Khamchanh went to the University of Phoenix from 2007 to 2009 and received an MBA in Business Administration. He likes mountain biking, yoga, exercising, fine and performance art, and traveling.




Bob Steele

Bob Steele 
Bob has worked in the transportation field since 1971 and has been involved with ITS since the mid ‘90s. His background and areas of expertise include project management, contract administration, traffic studies, traffic signal design, signal timing and operations, ITS design and implementation. After graduating from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania with a B.A. in mathematics, Bob started his career in traffic engineering with the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Since then, he has worked primarily for public agencies such as the City of Mesa, City of Scottsdale, and the City of Phoenix. Bob retired from Phoenix in 2006. He is currently working for the Maricopa County Department of Transportation. Bob is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, ITE - ITS Management & Operations Technical Council, Intelligent Transportation Systems of America, and Intelligent Transportation Systems of Arizona. In addition to serving on the ITS Arizona Board, he is chairman of the Bell Road Coordination Committee.




Tom Buick

Tom Buick 
Tom Buick joined the firm of Morrison-Maierle Arizona, Inc. in July 2004 to head its southwest regional transportation group. As Principal Engineer for Morrison-Maierle Arizona, Buick’s 28 years of public works experience enhanced the delivery of a broad range of public works projects with an emphasis on transportation systems improvements. Prior to that Mr. Buick led the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) to prominence as a nationally recognized Department of Transportation that built and sustained a very high quality system of County highways and bridges (e.g., Loop 303). He previously served as Director of Public Works for the City of Chandler and directed the ADOT/Pima Association of Governments’ Transportation Planning Division in Tucson. In addition to his public works accomplishments, Buick is noted for his work as Co-Chair of Arizona’s AZTech™ Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Model Deployment initiative in the Phoenix metropolitan area. With the help of a $7.9 million national discretionary grant from the USDOT, Tom helped initiate, deploy and then extend benefits to include police, fire, emergency medical, emergency management and telecommunications agencies…an award-winning public-private partnership that garnered additional Congressional discretionary funding. Mr. Buick serves as National Project Director for ITS America’s Traveler Information Forum and received the U.S. Department of Transportation’s award for “Best Deployment of ITS” with special commendation for the most effective blend of public/private resources. Buick received his BS in Civil Engineer from The University of Arizona and his MS in Civil Engineer from Purdue University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona, a member of various professional societies and the Arizona Academy. Mr. Buick has received numerous awards recognizing his contribution to the community and in the fields of transportation and public works. He is a recipient of the American Public Works Association “Top 10 Public Works Leader” Award and the Professional Merit Award from the National Association of County Engineers. Mr Buick recently retired from active service with Morrison-Maierle.




Deanna Haase

Deanna Haase 
Deanna Haase has been with Kimley-Horn and Associates in Phoenix, Arizona for seven years working on a variety of ITS design projects as well as innovative ITS planning projects for cities, counties, and states around the country. Her experience with local ITS applications as well as best practices nationally brings a unique perspective to the strategic and deployment plans, integration reviews, PS&E packages, concept of operations, architecture development, and other ITS-related efforts she is passionate about. Deanna was born and raised in the Central Coast of California. She received her Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. She has been involved in ITS Arizona for six years, has been active in the ITE/IMSA Arizona Annual Conference as the Program Chair for the past four years, and is currently the ITS Arizona Section Treasurer for 2011-2012. She is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of California and Arizona




Pitu Mirchandani

Pitu Mirchandani  
Dr. Pitu Mirchandani (BS, Engineering, UCLA; SM, Aeronautics and Astronautics, MIT; ScD, Operations Research, MIT).is a Professor of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering. His areas of technical expertise and interests include theories, models and algorithms in systems engineering, and their application to transportation, logistics, emergency management and real-time information and control systems. His recent research projects have focused on Advanced Traffic Management Systems and Modeling of Information/Traffic Flow Interactions. He has co-authored two books and over 100 articles in a variety of journals, magazines and books. He has been on the editorial boards of: IIE Transactions-Scheduling and Logistics; Transportation Science; Journal of Industrial Mathematics, Journal for Advanced Transportation; and Journal of Technology, Policy and Management. He is a member of IEEE, INFORMS, IIE, POMS, TRB, and a charter member of ITS-Arizona, and past member of ACM and ITS America. In 2008, ITS-Arizona gave him the “The Member of the Year” award.




Mike Sutton

Mike Sutton 
Mike Sutton currently works for the City of Mesa. In the past, he has worked for the Town of Queen Creek where he was actively involved with ITS, transportation and various committees. While with Kirkham Michael he managed and was directly involved with a variety of Traffic related ITS projects. Prior to working with KM, Mike worked with the Town of Gilbert for 10 years where he managed and/or was directly involved with the design, installation, planning and maintenance of their ATMS system and all traffic signal and transportation communication projects. He is a past president of ITS Arizona.




Scott Clark

Scott Clark 
Scott Clark is a Sales Engineer with Clark Electric Sales. Clark Electric Sales provides transportation products and technical solutions to the transportation industry. He has sales, project management and engineering background working closely with municipalities, consultants, contractors and manufacturers. His areas of expertise in the transportation field are ITS design specifications, communications (wireless and Ethernet), traffic calming, pole structures, and energy efficient lighting technologies. Scott received a Masters in Business Administration from University of Arizona along with Bachelors of Science in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from University of Arizona. Prior to working in transportation, he worked as Design Engineer for Lockheed Martin Skunk Works. He has also been published in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics.




Scott Miller

Scott Miller 
Scott Miller is a Senior Transit Planner with HDR | S.R. Beard & Associates. Scott has worked in the public transit industry for the last 14 years and specializes in transit service and facility planning, transit operations and transit ITS. Scott’s ITS experience includes managing the production of the Phoenix region’s first GPS based geo-spatial bus stop database, transit management systems (TMS) and transit fare collection systems.




Pete Yingling

Pete Yingling 
Pete joined the City of Phoenix Streets Transportation Department, Traffic Signal section in 2001. He is currently managing and scheduling Traffic Signal Technicians in projects and directing everyday duties. His education in Electronics Engineering technology began while serving in the USAF which developed into a career in systems integration and machine automation. With over 30 years experience in the private sector, Pete has held positions as a Controls Engineer and Project Manager for a company that produced automated equipment and services to customers on a global scale. Pete holds certificates for ITS Project Management from the University of Maryland and Traffic Signal Operation Specialist from ITE Transportation Professionals Certification Board. He has been directly involved with various ITS projects within the City of Phoenix such as the High Bandwidth Signals Communications system, Emergency Vehicle Preemption and community and school zone speed feedback display standards and procurement.
