Intelligent Transportation Systems Specialist (Electronic Systems Specialist) – Street Transportation Department
ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Traffic Services Division is responsible for ensuring the safe movement of traffic and pedestrians. Responsibilities include street signs, traffic signals, left-turn arrows, school safety, removal of visibility obstructions, on-street parking, neighborhood cut-through, traffic safety, and permits to use right-of-way.
The Street Transportation Department is seeking to fill multiple Intelligent Transportation Systems Specialist (Electronic Systems Specialists) positions in the Traffic Services Section. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the technical evaluation, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the citywide traffic signal IT network system and its electrical/electronic infrastructure, which comprises the entire Intelligent Transportation IT Network System.
The Traffic Signal Shop provides 24/7 technical field support and emergency response to internal and external customers.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Knowledge of:
- Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Analog and digital electronics.
- Networking, electronic communications, and/or intelligent transportation systems.
Ability to:
- Diagnose problems or malfunctions and accomplish repairs in a minimal amount of time.
- Perceive the full range of the color spectrum in working with LEDs, color-coded wires, etc.
- Configure and use laptops/computers to access the traffic signal network devices and databases.
- Communicate orally and in writing in the English language with individuals in a face-to-face, one-on-one setting or by telephone.
SALARY
Pay Range: $31.06 to $45.89 per hour.
Hiring Range: $31.06 to $41.63 per hour.

- Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of journey level experience in installation and maintenance of electronic and digital systems or related distribution systems.
- Associate’s degree in electronics or related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Working conditions and requirements include:
- Working 2nd or 3rd shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Participating in an after-hours/weekend on-call rotation schedule.
- Moving objects weighing 50 pounds or more may be required.
- Working in a vehicle-based aerial lift or bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet.
- Climbing ladders or steps to reach objects and work at heights greater than ten feet.
- Working on city streets near vehicular traffic.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Three years of experience as an IT technician, ITS specialist and /or electronics technician.
- IMSA Certification – Traffic Signal Level II.
Experience with:
- IP addressing and VLAN Networking.
- Fiber optic or wireless radio communications.
- Safe operation of vehicle based aerial lift or bucket truck.
- Electronic testing devices such as voltmeters, ohm-meters and amp-meters.
