Parking Meter Supervisor (Principal Engineering Technician) – Street Transportation Department
ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Street Transportation Department, Traffic Services Division is responsible for ensuring the safe movement of traffic and pedestrians. Responsibilities include street signs, traffic signals, left-turn arrows, school safety, removal of visibility obstructions, on-street parking, neighborhood cut-through, traffic safety, and permits to use right-of-way.
The Parking Program section within the Traffic Services Division has a vacancy for a Parking Meter Supervisor (Principal Engineering Technician). The Parking Meter Supervisor role involves performing challenging oversight duties related to the administration of the City’s parking meter program. The position will be responsible for directing the work of the parking meter specialists, collecting and analyzing data from the meter systems, ordering parts and equipment, and managing the relationship with the program’s vendors. Additionally, this position will conduct investigations and resolve complaints related to parking meters.
The Street Transportation Department is responsible for managing the City’s parking meters. Generating over $3 million dollars annually at more than 2,500 meters, the parking meter program is a key component of the City’s curbside management system. This position will report to the Traffic Services Field Office at 1101 W Jefferson St, Phoenix, AZ 85034.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work effectively with deadlines.
- Knowledge of/in:
- Parking meter operations.
- Field safety practices.
- Parking meter repair and installation.
- Traffic engineering principles and practices.
- Civil engineering principles and techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, must be extremely organized, self-motivated, able to make sound decisions.
SALARY
Pay Range: $67,849 to $ 110,510 annually.
Hiring Range: $67,849 to $ 110,510 annually.

- Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.

- Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Six years of experience in paraprofessional engineering work.
- Including three years of paraprofessional civil engineering experience.
- OR one year of experience at the level of Chief Engineering Technician.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Working Conditions and Requirements:
- Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
- Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
- Requires walking for prolonged periods, which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
- Working on City streets near vehicular traffic.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience in/with:
- Working with field staff.
- City Code and Zoning guidelines.
- Parking meter operations and troubleshooting.
- Manipulating and analyzing data to support decision-making.
- Creating reports and documents using MS Word and Excel.
- Professional and collaborative interaction with internal and external stakeholders, management, and the public.
