City of Mesa Traffic Engineering is inviting applications for an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Operations Foreman. The ITS Operations Foreman is distinguished from the ITS Technician II class by the performance of full supervisory responsibility and greater technical knowledge.  The incumbent determines equipment needs and orders materials and supplies and has project management and contract administration responsibility.  The incumbent researches and composes specifications for ITS equipment and hardware and participates in preparing budget preparation.  The ITS Operations Foreman reports to the ITS Operations Supervisor.

ASU Transportation Seminar: Autonomous Vehicles – Industry and Technology Overview

Arizona Sate University (ASU) is hosting Transportation Seminar on Autonomous Vehicles – Industry and Technology Overview sponsored by ITS Arizona.

The seminar will be at the College Avenue Commons (660 S College Ave Tempe AZ 85281) on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 1:30 to 2:45 PM. The ASU Transportation Seminar is an interdisciplinary seminar series organized by the ASU Transportation Campaign and TOMNET, a USDOT-Sponsored Tier 1 University Transportation Center led by ASU.

Karl Theisen, Assistant Director of Corporate Engagement, Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering, ASU will lead the seminar. Karl founded the Business Engagement Catalyst, a strategic business unit responsible for connecting local and global industry partners to the vast research, workforce development and student engagement resources of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. He currently leads the School’s industry engagement activities for transportation and automated mobility research and program development. He is also ASU’s lead for the Institute of Automated Mobility launched by Arizona’s governor in the Fall of 2018.

ITS Arizona Annual Conference – Draft Program is available now

2019 Conference – ITS – The Path to Smart Mobility

This year’s ITS Arizona Annual Conference will be held on Tuesday, September 24th and Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Mesa Convention Center, Building C, located at 263 N Center Street in Mesa, Arizona.  

The theme of this year’s conference – ITS – The Path to Smart Mobility– underscores the conference’s goals of providing participants with a one-stop resource focusing on evolving smart mobility applications that are enhancing the multi-modal transportation options while presenting challenges and opportunities to the communities in integrating the technologies into public spaces. Elected and appointed officials, business and community leaders and emergency responders and public safety personnel will contribute to the rich dialogue while learning about the technical challenges facing the transportation community.

The conference program is designed to appeal to a wide audience. Program topics will interest those in the public and private transportation, transit, tourism, enforcement, freight industry, public safety and medical service professionals engaged in the operations, maintenance and use of our transportation system.

Day 1 Workshop

Day 1 workshop will include a Connected Vehicle Demonstration (V2I with Cellular) by Traffic Technology Services, Audi of America and City of Mesa.

In 2016, Audi launched the first connected vehicle application through their connectivity service, Audi connect.  Traffic Technology Services is the information service provider for the Audi system, providing technology that predicts traffic signal control operations.  Participants will experience the first applications: Time-To-Green and Green Light Optimized Speed Advisory.  Total time for demonstration is 20 minutes.

2019 ITS AZ Conference Connected Vehicle Live Demo

The ITS Arizona Annual Conference is almost here!! Don’t forget to register before September 1 to secure the early bird registration fees.

As part of Day 1 of the conference, Traffic Technology Services in cooperation with City of Mesa will host a Connected Vehicle live demonstration.

Participants will drive around the convention center to experience the connected vehicle applications developed by Volkswagen and Audi. ​The entire demonstration will take 15-20 minutes total to drive through signalized intersections, experience the system, and discuss the technology during the drive. ​Must have a valid driver’s license and be over 25 years old to participate as a driver in the demonstration. 

The demonstration is open to all conference attendees. Registration is required to secure a seat.

A City Plans Examiner is a skilled technical classification which performs responsible plans examination work in support of the central plans review function of the Development Services Department or Transportation Department including screening and preliminary plan review.  Work involves researching historical background information pertinent to individual permit applications; performing technical analyses of plans, specifications, and reports; and reviewing construction documents for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to applicable codes, ordinances, and national standards.
