Work on Your Swing with ITS Arizona

Come join us for another great ITS Arizona social event! Enjoy some food, fun and games at TopGolf Glendale and catch up on the latest with your friends and colleagues. Arizona DOT Launches Enhanced AZ511 Traveler Information System

Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has launched a modernized, mobile-friendly Arizona 511 Traveler Information System website and phone line. The new system uses the latest technology to provide a customized experience with real-time updates from ADOT, the premier source of information on Arizona’s highway system. The new AZ511.gov website allows users to save their favorite routes and most used traffic cameras. Before leaving for a destination, drivers can log onto AZ511.gov to view incidents along their route, get estimated travel times to their destination and receive alternate route suggestions. Travelers may set up text or email alerts for their routes. Users can also call the 511 phone line to hear personalized updates. The 511 phone line is now easier to navigate and voice recognition has been upgraded. Click here for more information regarding the AZ511 app.

Volunteer Opportunity with ITS AZ – Engineering Week

ITS Arizona will be hosting the Engineering Week at Archway Classical Academy in North Scottsdale. We are seeking member volunteers to participate in the classroom visit to engage around 150 students with various educational and hands-on-activities. School: Archway Classical Academy Scottsdale Location: 16648 N 94th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 Date: March 7th, 2019 at 12:45 p.m. Meeting Time : 12:45 p.m. in the front office (the presentation will begin at 1:00 pm, we expect to conclude at 2:15 pm) If you are interested in volunteering please RSVP to Michelle Beckley (mbeckley@lee-eng.com,  602-443-8468).

ITS America ramps up MOD Alliance Efforts

The Mobility on Demand (MOD) Alliance, an initiative of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America), is outlining its 2019 plans to coordinate and develop seamless mobility in the United States. ITS America created the MOD Alliance to help determine what the future of mobility should look like. Its charge is to facilitate a system in which consumers can research, book and pay for daily trips – no matter what form of transportation - on one integrated platform. To kick off this year’s activities, the MOD Alliance hosted an event on Capitol Hill yesterday featuring city, transit, and private sector leaders who talked about the benefits of mobility on demand, shared examples of existing and future MOD initiatives - including public-private partnerships - and discussed potential roles for Congress and federal agencies. ITS AZ is Seeking Volunteers for Engineers Week!

Engineers Week (E-Week) is celebrated annually as a way to recognize contributions in the engineering profession and reach out to younger students to get them inspired and excited about engineering. ITS Arizona will be hosting this year's E-week at Archway Classical Academy in North Scottsdale. We are seeking member volunteers to participate in the classroom visit to engage around 150 students with various educational and hands-on-activities. School: Archway Classical Academy Location: North Scottsdale (16648 N 94th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85260) Time Commitment: 1-2 hours Potential Dates: February 19 – March 15 (our visit may not fall within National Engineers Week) If you are interested in volunteering please respond to Michelle Beckley (mbeckley@lee-eng.com,  602-443-8468) by February 6, 2019.

2019 Student Essay Contest: ITS America & Southwest Research Institute

Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) is inviting college students to share their visions for the future of transportation in their 10th annual ITS essay competition. The winner will earn a $1,000 cash prize and a paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 4-7, to attend ITS America’s 2019 Annual Meeting. This year’s essay topic: “How do you envision disruptive technologies impacting transportation systems to make them safer, greener, and/or smarter over the next 10 years?” The contest is open to undergraduate and graduate students at accredited colleges and universities. 2018 ITS AZ/NAU Joint Meeting

On November 30th 2018, ITS Arizona organized guest speaker presentation at Northern Arizona University (NAU) for the NAU ITE Student Chapter. David Lucas (City of Tempe) gave a presentation on the Tempe Street Car project. The guest speaker provided insight into the Streetcar project including construction, traffic operations, applications of ITS technology and monitoring systems for the signal systems. The presentation concluded with a valuable question and answer discussion with the students. A special thank you to David Lucas for participating in the NAU ITE Student Chapter presentations!!
